A landslide occurred on Halloween around 4:30 which cut power off to all of the island. Diesel generators reconnected the town to about 4 mile and hydro connected houses after 6 mile. By November 2nd all internet, power, and phone was restored to the island. No one was hurt and no homes were affected except for one homeowner’s driveway which was degraded. Much thanks to local contractors, state and federal employees to jump on the scene and get the slide cleared! Mitkof island is famous for coming together in a time of need and helping one another out making it one more reason to live Southeast Alaska.
